Pepper can now detect a mask

Across the UAE, everyone (with some exceptions) must wear a mask in public places. This protocol is enforced and can lead up to fines to those who do not follow this. In order to support our clients, our vendor, SoftBank Robotics Europe, has unveiled a brand-new free feature for its humanoid robot, Pepper: mask detection.

Thanks to its cameras, Pepper can now scan the faces of up to 5 people in a group, simultaneously, in order to check if they are wearing a mask. During the interaction, Pepper displays a green or red circle around the face on its tablet depending on whether the person is wearing a mask or not. The AI algorithm can achieve a high score even on masks with complex patterns.

The company has set up an Android library for Pepper QiSDK is based on AIZoo's Face Mask Detection, and uses the same model, running on Pepper's tablet, using OpenCV.

If you need any help or have activated this feature, share your experience with us or connect with our team on vms.sales@jackys.com.
