Giordano Middle East has deployed a digital avatar Proof of Concept (POC) at their latest outlet in Dubai Hills Mall to connect and enhance its customer experience. The digital avatar solution from Humanizing Technologies was installed by Jacky’s Business Solutions and active at the end of September 2022.
The use of Avatars in store can help a brand tell rich and exciting stories about products, whether that be creating an emotional connection to others, understanding the sustainability journey behind the product or in bringing alive benefits that the product will enable. In fact, using technology to create a personal in-store experience will be critical for the future.
The project took three days to create including avatar customization as the avatar comes as-a-service. The deployment and implementation was swift and almost instant.
According to Ishwar Chugani, Managing Director for Giordano in the Middle East, the initial response has been quite encouraging. “Customers had the opportunity to interact with our Avatar, know more about Giordano and were able to get information on our WWS (World Without Strangers) customer loyalty program, as well as the products and services that we offer. As this was something new for us, we are continuously learning from the experience and seeing how best to take things forward and improve on its capabilities.”
A few months ago, Giordano also deployed a robot in its stores to meet, greet, inform and entertain its customers.
Chugani added, “Brands from all industries and categories are making their presence known in the Metaverse, it is common sense to be operating in this space. Consumers are still learning about and familiarizing themselves with the Metaverse, not surprisingly brands are also going through a learning curve themselves.”
“The future of retail,” he added, “is being built around the notion that what you sell is less important than how you sell it. Forget about product differentiation – the future of retail is about distinct experiences.”
To create such experiences, retailers must understand the critical importance of connecting with their customers. True customer loyalty cannot simply be bought for discounts, ‘miles’ or points. These are a short-term fad, which get boring when they don’t deliver on the initial expectation. Loyal customers will ultimately return because the experiences created for them are preferable to those delivered by the competitors.
