At SIMAC Tanning Tech in Milan this September, Zünd and its partners Mind and Mindhive Global will showcase how automation and AI are transforming leather processing. From 23–25 September, visitors to Hall 10, Booth A48/B47, will see the Captura Workflow in action – an integrated process that brings together machine vision, AI, and digital cutting.
Traditionally, evaluating and grading hides has been a manual, inconsistent, and time-consuming task. Captura changes this by digitising the entire process. Using Mindhive FinishSelect™, hides are scanned and analysed within seconds, with AI detecting multiple defects at sub-millimetre accuracy. The data flows into MindCUT software, which manages nesting and cutting, before being executed on a Zünd Cutter designed for precision and efficiency.
For producers, this means hide evaluation in just 15 seconds, significant time savings, and fewer rejected parts. The system also provides complete digital documentation for every hide, supporting traceability, quality assurance, and production planning.
Zünd will also demonstrate the G3 compact cutter, a space-efficient system tailored for medium-sized hides. Its streamlined front-to-back workflow allows loading, cutting, and parts removal to happen simultaneously, eliminating downtime and boosting productivity.
By integrating AI, digital imaging, and cutting technology into one seamless process, Zünd and its partners are showing how leather production can move from a manual craft to a data-driven, fully automated workflow. The result is consistent quality, reduced waste, and a smarter path to higher efficiency.
At SIMAC 2025, visitors will be able to experience this transformation first-hand and see how digitalisation is shaping the future of leather processing.
