Jacky’s brings robotics to ADU’s education conference

Jacky’s Business Solutions showcased Pepper from Softbank Robotics, temi, KettyBot from Pudu Robotics and Kebbi from Nuwa Robotics in the exhibition area at Abu Dhabi University’s third International Conference on Education, giving educators an opportunity to explore where robotics could fit within their institutions.

Held in Al Ain, the conference focused on “Designing Pedagogical Approaches for Future Learners: Challenges and Opportunities”. Its programme explored the role of AI, digital innovation and new teaching approaches in preparing learners for the future.

Jacky’s participation brought a practical dimension to these discussions. The four robots represent different possibilities for education, from interactive learning and coding to remote participation and campus visitor services.

Supporting learning and engagement

Social robots offer educators a way to explore how students interact with technology. Softbank Robotic’s Pepper humanoid format provides a starting point for activities centred on human–robot interaction, with potential applications in programmed presentations, information sharing and engagement. The content and interaction would be developed around the institution’s requirements.

Kebbi has a more direct role as a learning assistant, with applications in programming, language learning and STEM education. It offers scope for activities that connect coding with a robot’s movements and responses, helping students explore the relationship between their instructions and the resulting behaviour.

Connecting people and supporting campus services

Robotics can also support activity beyond the classroom. Temi’s mobile video capabilities offer possibilities for remote participation, allowing someone joining from another location to connect through a robot that can move within the learning environment.

Pudu’s KettyBot brings a different set of applications. Its greeting, escorting, delivery and display functions could support reception areas, open days and campus events, helping institutions consider how robots might assist visitors and handle selected service tasks.

Starting with a practical purpose

For schools and universities considering robotics, the starting point is the task they want to support. A classroom coding activity requires a different approach from a campus welcome service or a remote learning connection.

Jacky’s showcase introduced educators to these different possibilities. Selecting the right robot also means considering suitable content, staff preparation and how it will fit into everyday teaching or campus operations.
