ONYX 25.5 brings new controls to print production

ONYX 25.5 is available immediately, bringing new colour management and workflow tools to wide-format print production.

For print providers handling brand colours, specialty inks and different finishing requirements, the update focuses on giving operators more control within their existing production workflow. It combines specialty ink preparation, spectral colour technologies, expanded profiling and improvements to PDF processing and production reliability.

Preparing specialty ink jobs in Layout

ONYX 25.5 brings white ink, spot colour and varnish layer generation directly into the Layout Tool. Operators can prepare specialty applications where they are already making production decisions, reducing the need to move jobs between applications.

Potential applications include decals, labels, packaging and specialty graphics that require underlays, masks or multiple ink layers. Media Colour Simulation also allows operators to preview artwork on coloured substrates.

Greater control over colour matching

Matching a customer’s brand colour can be challenging when a job moves between printers, materials or lighting conditions. The new spectral colour tools are designed to help print providers assess and improve spot colour reproduction.

Smart Spot Search evaluates different ink combinations to identify the closest achievable match. Spectral Colour Matching and hybrid ICC/iccMAX profiling provide further options for managing demanding colours.

Expanded profiling includes support for eight-channel ink configurations, giving businesses using additional colours more scope to build profiles around their production requirements.

Supporting dependable production

The release includes Adobe PDF Print Engine 7.1, with improvements to PDF processing, transparency handling and colour fidelity. Enhanced cutting and finishing controls, expanded device support and workflow connectivity improvements address other parts of the production process.

For businesses considering an upgrade, the practical starting point is the work they produce. Reviewing current printers, ink configurations, applications and recurring production challenges helps identify which updates will be most useful.

Jacky’s Business Solutions can help customers assess ONYX 25.5 against their existing print environment and discuss suitable upgrade options.
